Closed-barrel extruders are the most widely used type of twin-screw extruder. Within the closed barrel, the molten polymer is subjected to intense shear by the screws, ensuring thorough plasticization and uniform mixing. Currently, closed barrels are mainly available in two configurations: 4D and 6D, with the 4D version being more common. The inner wall of the closed barrel is also equipped with a circulating cooling channel for softened water, which is positioned close to the ∞-shaped working cavity. When paired with cast copper or cast aluminum electric heaters, this design enables highly precise barrel temperature control.
